This is Eddie who had a very nasty wound on his elbow. As the elbow moves so much his skin wouldn’t heal so we borrowed some skin from his shoulder, wrapped it up like a sausage, and sutured it onto his elbow.
This worked very well in terms of covering his wound but left him with a ‘handle’ of skin looped around in a U shape behind his leg. We considered operating a second time to remove this cosmetically (it can be done from 6 weeks after the original surgery) but decided to leave his ‘handle’ there as Eddie was an old chap who we didn’t want to anaesthetise too often, and his owners had grown very fond of his new quirky leg!
